1. Bhadla Solar Park (India)
This is the largest solar park in the world and has a total capacity of 2,245 MW. This solar park is situated in the village of Bhadla which comes under the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. This project is developing in four major phases and the total investment involved in this project is $1.4bn.
- The first phase (includes 7 power plants) and the second phase(includes 10 power plants) – Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Limited (RSPDCL)
- The third phase (10 solar plants) – Saurya Urja Company of Rajasthan
- The fourth phase (10 solar plants) – Adani Renewable Energy Park Rajasthan
The developers have been assigned for this project by NTPC and SECI
2. Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park (China)
This solar farm is situated in the deserts of Qinghai Province of China and has been developed by a state company named Huanghe Hydropower Development. The planning of this project is to reach 16 GW in future and it concludes 202.8 MW/MWh of total storage capacity which is huge itself. The project has been developed in 5 major phases The construction site has been connected to an ultra-high voltage transmission line that connects to different cities of China.
3. Pavagada Solar Park (India)
This is officially known as Shakti Sthala Solar Power Project and is the second-largest solar farm in India. The project is spread over an area of about 13,000 acres having a 2GW solar complex. This solar project has been developed by the Karnataka Solar Park Development Corporation Limited which is a joint venture of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development and Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited.
4. Benban Solar Park (Egypt)
Benban Solar Park is Africa’s largest solar farm. Egypt’s largest 1.8GW solar farm is situated a few kilometers away from the south of Cairo. There will be around 7.2 million photovoltaic panels and it is said that this project can be seen from space. The total investment in this project is $4 billion and the main ambition is to increase power generation in Egypt. The project has been developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority.
5. Tengger Desert Solar Park (China)
Tengger Desert Solar Park is the second-largest solar park in China which is located in Ningxia. This project having a 1.55 GW solar complex provides power to more than 6,00,000 homes. This project is a joint venture of China National Grid and Zhongwei Power Supply Co. The project is spread in an area of 1,200 km of Tengger Desert. It is considered one of the most influential solar projects in China.
6. Noor Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)
Noor Abu Dhabi is a 1.2 GW solar park located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This project will provide electrical power to 1,95,000 homes and will help to remove a million tones of carbon footprints in a year. The project often includes 3.2 million solar panels which are spread over 8 square kilometers. This project is a part of the UAE strategy which was launched earlier so as to increase the consumption of solar energy from the total energy generation.
7. Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Park (UAE)
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is situated in the United Arab Emirates and there are chances that it could climb up this list of solar parks in the future. The project is planned with a total capacity of 5 GW. It is stated that this project will probably cut down around 6.5 million carbon footprints each year. This project also includes houses for the Research and Development Center separately. It has been set up with Jinko solar highly efficient solar PV panels.
8. Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park (India)
This solar park is spread over an area of 24 square kilometres in a district called Kurnool of Andhra Pradesh. The capacity of this solar park is 1GW and is built with an investment of $980 million. The project is further developed by central and state governments along with solar developers. It has around 4 million solar panels that have capacities of about 315 and 320 kW.
9. Datong Solar Power (China)
The Datong Solar Power Top Runner Base is among the biggest solar farms having a total capacity of 1.07GW. It is a long term project which will lead to a total generation capacity of 3GW in future. It generates around 870 million watts of electricity. It is the first national photovoltaic solar farm that has been approved by the Top Runner Program. The mission of this project is to promote the application of advanced photovoltaic technology and upgrade the solar industry.
10. NP Kunta (India)
NP Kunta solar Park marks its position among the biggest solar farms in India with a total capacity of 978MW and is evenly spread in an area of 32 square kilometers. It is said that this project is planning to expand its total generation capacity in future to 1,500 MW. The main aim of this project is to support the government in managing the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources.
11. Longyangxia Dam Solar Park (China)
Longyangxia Dam Solar Park comes in the list of large scale solar farms consisting of 850 MW capacity. This project consists of nearly 4 million solar panels and can provide power to 1,50,000 houses. It covers an area of 27 square kilometers and a total investment of about $8,895 million. The main aim behind this largest project is to limit the pollution level and increase the share of renewable sources in power generations.
12. Villanueva Solar Park (Mexico)
Villanueva Solar Park is situated in the Viesca region of Coahuila, Mexico. The capacity of this solar park is 828MW and has been developed by Enel Green Power Mexico. The estimated investment for the project is around $710 million along with the construction divided into two phases. It will generate electricity that will be sufficient enough to power more than 1.3 million houses in Mexico.
13. Copper Mountain Solar Facility (United States)
The Copper Mountain Solar Facility is a 552 MW solar plant which is located in Boulder City, Nevada. It acquired 1400 acres of land in the intense desert of Boulder City. It consists of 1 million solar photovoltaic solar panels that provide power to nearly 90,000 homes. The project was developed by Sempra Generation and aims to reduce tons of gas emissions so as to produce more clean energy.
14. Mount Signal Solar (United States)
Mount Signal Solar plant basically consists of three solar plants that have been developed by 8minutes. It is also known as the Imperial Valley project situated in the west of Calexico, California. The total capacity of the project is 794MW and is planning to extend its generation capacity in future. This project was supported by several environmental groups as well.
15. Rewa Ultra Mega Solar (India)
Rewa Ultra Mega solar is one of the largest solar plants situated in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. It is spread in an area of 1590 acres having a capacity of 750MW and has been developed by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited which is a joint venture of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited and The Solar Energy Corporation of India. It has achieved a record for having low solar tariffs in India.
